Tony's Italian Kitchen, Englewood (NW Dayton)

Several of my relatives were visiting, and someone decided they wanted some Italian food, so we all decided to try Tony's Italian Kitchen. I had driven by it several times, but never really took notice of the place before.

We went on a Friday night, with a party of 4 adults and 3 kids. There was no line, but it turned out that the only table large enough to accommodate our whole party was occupied. Dining room was smaller than I expected. I did notice some Italian music playing very softly in the background.

After waiting about 20 minutes, we asked if we could just go ahead and place our orders, so that we wouldn't have to wait a second time after getting seated. They said they really couldn't do that, but then allowed us to push 3 tables out in the front waiting area together. I have to say up front that this initial treatment was disappointing. They were not at all busy, and I believe the wait staff could have rather easily put together a couple of the tables in the regular dining area in a pinch to make us feel more welcome. It would also have cut our time waiting extensively, not to mention have increased the size of our tip. Just keep in mind that if you have a decent sized party, you may be kept waiting for some time at this restaurant, even if there is no line.

On to the food. Unfortunately, I neglected to take a photo of the board with the specials on it, and I ended up losing the photos I got of the food before we ate. You'll have to be satisfied with this spectacular photo I took of the carryout menu:

I ended up getting the Pettole de Lasagna for $6.99, which is loose ends of lasagna, including drink, salad and breadsticks. I truly enjoyed the lasagna bits, and despite the low price of the special, there was plenty of food to satisfy. Keep in mind that it was the special of the day, and the specials change day to day. Side salad was generous, with dressing on the side, 1 tomato slice, and dark green lettuce. (not too much iceberg) Out of 5, I would give them 4.5 for the food, and 3.5 for the experience.

Another person in our party got the Spaghetti and meatballs for $11.95, which included breadsticks and salad. Spaghetti & Meatballs had 2 very large meatballs, but seemed like it was a bit lower on meat than expected. Gave the food 4, experience a 3.

The last meal in our party was the Stuffed Shells Florentine, with garlic bread & salad for $11.95.
Rated the food a 5, but experience a 2.

So, out of 5, our ratings averaged
4.5 out of 5 for the food
2.83 out of 5 for the experience

On a positive note, we forgot a kid's sippy cup in the restaurant, and they brought it out to us before we had left the parking lot. A lot of places probably wouldn't have bothered.
